~ Healed and Whole ~

One day I dug a little hole
And put my hurt inside
I thought that I could just forget
I’d put it there to hide.

But that little hurt began to grow
I covered it every day
I couldn’t leave it and go on
It seemed the price I had to pay.

My joy was gone, my heart was sad
Pain was all I knew.
My wounded soul enveloped me
Loving seemed too hard to do.

One day, while standing by my hole
I cried to God above
And said, “If You are really there –
They say, You’re a God of Love!”

And just like that — He was right there
And just put His arms around me
He wiped my tears, His hurting child
There was no safer place to be.

I told Him all about my hurt
I opened up my heart
He listened to each and every word
To every sordid part.

I dug down deep and got my hurt
I brushed the dirt away
And placed it in the Master’s hand
And healing came that day.

He took the blackness of my soul
And set my spirit FREE!
Something beautiful began to grow
Where the hurt used to be.

And when I look at what has grown
Out of my tears and pain
I remember every day to give my hurts to Him
And never bury them again.

What amazes me was it was about a life of a man, who experiencing lack of love from family, constant brutality in his early childhood in a boarding school, rejection and separation of love for his potential soul-mate, pressure and stress of his father’s political enemies, attempted multiple suicides throughout his life during depression and his bent to melancholy and sadness till his death. I can’t imagine having the strength and sanity to live such a life. Not without Him.

The story of this man brought me to my own life, where I was struggling with my life, not till insanity, but perhaps depression, which I believed I have no idea what it means at the point of time, if it wasn’t Him who interfere but chancing on the story of Him, just like William Cowper.

But I am glad I have my family who love me, friends who stood by me during my toughest period, and soon I found myself studying in one of the best schools in the region. I am still struggling still and the life of William Cowper, show that it was the same for him. What keep me going in life everyday is found in Roman 5:1-5 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith…but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”

The difference is that the lives we live now is not ours, but belong to Him and for His purpose and for His glory, may we live to exhibit that. I pray the same for you.

“In all my pains, shames and weaknesses I experience in my life that they bring glory to God and I will endure till the end of my trials with God be my strength because in Him and Him alone, my portion is full and my joy is complete.”

Extra notes: I am not fully convinced on the part that “God is most glorious when we are most satisfied in Him in the midst of our pain and not prosperity.”

That sound like ONLY through our satisfaction in Him in the midst of our suffering it will make Him the most glorious. It may be true for some people who God selected but to apply it sweepingly across Christian lives that would be same as those prosperity gospel  speakers do.

I would say in pain or in prosperity, we live our lives in obedience by honoring Him in all our ways with every opportunity arises, with all of our heart and with all of our soul, this will make Him glorious. In fact, a faith of a mustard seed, a simple obedience of offering five loaves two fishes, the offering of a poor woman to God, caring of brothers and sisters who are hungry or naked, these simple acts are enough to make Him glorious! There is nothing more or nothing less we do in obedience to Him will make Him any more or any less glorious. He is made glorious the moment we offer our lives to Him and in every moment we do the very thing that we are called by Him.
